YOGA

• Yoga means "union" in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India where it originated. We can think of it as the union occurring between the mind, body and spirit.

• Yoga can be more accurately described by asana, this refers to the practice of physical postures or poses

"One needs to maintain a constant balance between stretching and relaxing, between strengthening and yielding, and between the quietness of the inner SELF and the performance of outer body."

The most common type practised in the West is Hatha Yoga, a combination ofasanas (physical exercises and postures), pranayama (breathing techniques) andmeditation. It is said to provide a balanced and wholesome approach to achievingperfect physical and mental health, happiness and tranquility. Eastern Yogis(yoga practitioners) believe asanas are simply stepping stones to higher paths.
